Amanda Park, PhD, MA
My passion has always been helping people navigate life's most difficult moments with compassion, clarity, and evidence-based care. As the founder and Clinical Director of Park Place Counseling & Consulting, I believe therapy is about more than reducing symptoms—it's about creating meaningful, lasting change that allows you to live with greater confidence, connection, and purpose.
I earned my Ph.D. in Psychology with a concentration in Forensic Psychology, a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with specialized training in Substance Abuse and Trauma Counseling, and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a Forensic Psychology focus.
I am licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor (Virginia) and Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (North Carolina). I am also a National Certified Counselor (NCC), Perinatal Mental Health Certified (PMH-C) clinician, Certified Sex Offender Treatment Provider (CSOTP), and an EMDR Certified Therapist. My clinical work is grounded in evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Solution-Focused Therapy, allowing treatment to be personalized to each client's unique goals, strengths, and circumstances.
My professional journey has been shaped by a commitment to supporting individuals through some of life's most vulnerable moments. I began my career within the Virginia Department of Corrections, providing specialized treatment to adult male sexual offenders at Indian Creek Correctional Center and St. Brides Correctional Center. This work provided a unique understanding of trauma, accountability, risk assessment, and the complexities of human behavior.
I later transitioned into victim advocacy, partnering with local law enforcement agencies to support survivors of sexual assault and other sexual crimes during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. From there, I became the Lead Therapist for a residential treatment program specializing in adolescents with sexually reactive behaviors, working closely with youth and their families to foster healing, accountability, and long-term behavioral change.
Although these experiences profoundly shaped me as a clinician, becoming a mother transformed both my personal life and my professional calling. Following my own pregnancies and postpartum experiences, I became increasingly aware of the significant gaps in medical and mental health support available to women during pregnancy, postpartum, infertility, and the transition into motherhood. I witnessed firsthand how many women silently struggle with anxiety, depression, birth trauma, infertility, IVF, pregnancy loss, identity changes, and the overwhelming demands of motherhood—often without access to specialized mental health care.
That realization inspired a new direction for my career and ultimately the vision behind Park Place Counseling & Consulting.
Today, supporting women through life's most transformative seasons is one of the greatest passions of my work. As a Perinatal Mental Health Certified (PMH-C) clinician, I am deeply committed to helping women navigate infertility and IVF, pregnancy, postpartum adjustment, motherhood, pregnancy loss, birth trauma, hormonal transitions, and the emotional complexities that often accompany these experiences. I understand that the journey into motherhood is rarely as simple as many expect, and I believe every woman deserves compassionate, specialized care during these vulnerable and life-changing moments.
While I work with adults experiencing a wide range of concerns, I have developed particular expertise in anxiety, depression, trauma, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), ADHD, women's mental health, infertility and fertility treatment, pregnancy and postpartum mental health, relationship concerns, and major life transitions. Whether supporting a new mother experiencing postpartum anxiety, helping someone process infertility grief, strengthening a relationship, or guiding someone through trauma, my goal is to create a therapeutic environment where clients feel safe enough to be honest, supported enough to heal, and empowered enough to grow.
In addition to clinical practice, I am passionate about advancing mental health awareness through education. I have been honored to provide academic presentations, professional training, and community education on topics including maternal mental health, anxiety, trauma, relationships, and psychological wellness. I believe that reducing stigma, increasing awareness, and expanding access to quality mental health care are essential to strengthening individuals, families, and communities.
Park Place Counseling & Consulting was created to be exactly what its name represents—a welcoming place where healing begins, resilience grows, and every client feels genuinely seen, heard, and valued. Whether you're navigating the emotional complexities of motherhood, healing from trauma, strengthening your relationships, or simply seeking a healthier and more fulfilling life, it is a privilege to walk alongside you.
